DAY 1 – ARRIVAL IN KATHMANDU (elev. 1350 m/4,429 ft.)

The Himalayan adventure begins when the wheels of your jetliner touches down at Tribhuvan International Airport. You deplane and soon get your on-arrival visa. Pass through immigration, pick up your luggage and its out the door into the Himalayan sunshine. You quickly see a sign with your name on it. It’s your friends from Asia Buddhist Tours & Treks who have come to take you by private car to your hotel to rest from your long flight. There will be time for complimentary drinks with your friends from Asia Buddhist Tours & Treks as they give you a brief outline of the activities in the upcoming days.

DAY 2 – SIGHTSEEING IN THE KATHMANDU VALLEY

Nothing is really small in the Himalayas. Even the valleys are big, and the Kathmandu Valley is no exception. Covering an area of 218 square miles, it is bigger than the country of Singapore. It is a well-watered valley with many wonderful rivers that come together with the holy Bagmati River to drain the valley on its way to join the sacred waters of the Ganges in India to the south.

The Valley has long been home to civilization, and today UNESCO recognizes seven wonderful, ancient sites that best identify the culture and heritage of the people who have called this Valley home for thousands of years. We will visit four of them today Asia Buddhist Tours & Trek’s city guide and private car. These include:

  • Swayambhu (a/k/a Monkey Temple). Dating back over 2000 years, it sits on a high hill overlooking the Kathmandu Valley with its temples, stupas and monasteries.
  • Kathmandu Durbar Square – nearly 60 temples, the old royal palace for Nepal along with the palace of the Kumari, the living goddess.
  • Boudhinath – The largest Buddhist stupa in Asia, it is also home of Nepal’s largest Tibetan refugee community.
  • Pashupatinath – The most holy Hindu site in Nepal, drawing millions of pilgrims yearly to its nearly 500 temples.

Return to your hotel in the evening as you prepare for tomorrow’s journey.

DAY 3 – TRAVEL TO POKHARA (elev. 820 m/2,690 ft.)

After breakfast, travel by private car to the domestic airport and take the short, but incredibly scenic flight along the backbone of the Himalayas to reach the lakeside city of Pokhara. This is the very heart of the Annapurnas; considered the most beautiful of mountain ranges in the Himalayas. It takes just 25 minutes to reach Pokhara from Kathmandu.

We have an opportunity to do some exploring in Pokhara before driving to the top of Sarangkot Hill to watch the inspiring sunset over the snowcapped peaks. We can see Annapurna I (10th highest mountain in the world) along with Mt. Dhaulagiri, the 7th highest mountain to the west. We will spend the night at a deluxe hotel at Sarangkot.

DAY 4 – SUNRISE AND PARAGLIDING

We wake up early to watch the stunning sunrise over the Annapurna Mountains. We walk up the steps to the viewpoint in the dark to watch the sunrise as the first red rays of the morning sun climb above the snowcapped peaks. Once we’ve watched the sunrise, we will go for breakfast, and then prepare to paraglide over Phewa Lake. You fly with a licensed, experienced pilot who will take charge of your flight as you soar with the eagles. We will check into a hotel in Pokhara at Lakeside. Take some time to explore on your own the beauty of Phewa Lake.

DAY 5 – SIGHTSEEING IN POKHARA, RETURN TO KATHMANDU

Today is an organized sightseeing trip in Pokhara as we visit the Buddhist World Peace Pagoda for an impressive view of the lake, the city and the Annapurnas. We can walk back to Pokhara from on top of the hill and enjoy a boat ride on Phewa Lake. There is an island with a Hindu temple in the middle of the lake that we will visit. We will take a late day flight back to Kathmandu, checking back into our hotel in the city.

DAY 6 – SIGHTSEEING IN KATHMANDU VALLEY

On your first full day in Nepal, you saw a number of interesting UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Today we will visit two places: Patan and Bhaktapur. Both were once their own kingdom in the Kathmandu Valley before the unification of Nepal in 1769. The city of Bhaktapur itself has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in its entirety with its impressive palace and many temples. In the evening, enjoy a farewell dinner with your friends at Asia Buddhist Tours & Treks.

DAY 7 – DEPARTURE

The Sarangkot Sunrise/Sunset with Paragliding experience has come to an end. What an incredible week it has been. You’ve had a wonderful time and have learned that there is so much more to enjoy in this magical land of Nepal. The vast majority of visitors return again and again. And why not? It would take a lifetime to see everything this country has to offer, ranging from rafting on fast flowing whitewater rivers, climbing mountains and exploring fascinating jungles for royal Bengal tigers. Be sure to discuss a return trip with your friends at Asia Buddhist Tours & Treks before leaving for your next destination.
