7 Nights/8 Days Tour at the birthplace of Lord Buddha
Over 2500 years ago, the Queen Maya Devi was traveling home. She was heavily pregnant when she decided to take a bath in the pond here in Nepal. Suddenly labor pains came upon her and she gave birth to her son, Prince Siddhartha Gautama. Her newborn son surprised everyone when he took seven steps upon his birth. While she lay dying, she knew that her son was very special as well as different. And so the future Lord Buddha entered the world.
Today Lumbini is not only a sacred place to the world, it has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Here stands many monasteries from around the world as well as his actual birthplace. The Maya Devi Temple is one of the most sacred places in Buddhism as well as to the world.

There is something about these sacred mountains that inspire the devotees to a higher plane of spirituality. After passing through passport control and collecting your luggage, you will be met by your guide from Asia Buddhist Tours & Treks and taken to your hotel to spend your first night in Nepal.
DAY 2 – FLY TO LUMBINI
It’s an easy flight of just 35 minutes to Bhairahawa Airport, and then just 35 km journey to Lumbini. This is the beautiful Terai region in the shadow of the foothills of the mighty Himalayas. At Lumbini, we check into our hotel before we visit the most sacred place: the Maya Devi Temple where Lord Buddha was born. Inside of the temple is a footprint of the baby Siddhartha preserved in the rock. Meditate next to the sacred pond where the very pregnant Queen Maya Devi bathed. There is a sacred fig tree or Bodhi tree (also called a peepal tree) that Queen Maya Devi held onto in labor pain. We will tour the secret garden as well as just sit next to the pond and fill ourselves with the immense spirituality that permeates the place. We will check into our hotel for dinner and afterwards, perform prayers and pooja before going to bed.
DAY 3 – INTRODUCTION TO BUDDHIST PHILOSOPHY, TEACHINGS AND MEDITATION
We rise early for morning prayer and pooja before breakfast. Following a good breakfast, we receive an introductory class on Buddhist philosophy as well as introduction to the proper way to do meditation. These classes are taught by a lama who has done at least 20 years of study. Following dinner is prayer and meditation before going to bed.
DAY 4 – LUMBINI SIGHTSEEING TOUR, MEDITATION
A beautiful reflecting canal extends from near the Maya Devi Temple and statue the baby Siddhartha to the Buddhist Peace Pagoda. This reflecting canal transcends a spirit of peace. It divides the grounds into two parts, with a myriad of monasteries on either side.
Each monastery reflects Buddhism in a variety of lands. Today will focus on one side of this beautiful reflecting canal as we explore the various monasteries. After spending time in meditation, we will go for dinner. Following dinner is time for prayers and pooja before going to bed.
DAY 5 – MORE LUMBINI SIGHTSEEING AND MEDITATION
In many ways, today is a reflection of yesterday. We rise early for morning pooja and prayers followed by breakfast. Today we explore the opposite side of the canal where the monasteries are equally interesting. We take lunch and rest, and then time for meditation, practicing the techniques you have learned in the classes. Dinner is next, followed by prayers, meditation and pooja before going to bed.
DAY 6 – VISIT TILAURAKOT, THEN BACK TO LUMBINI FOR MORE CLASSES
Prince Siddhartha Gautama grew up not far from Lumbini where his father was a powerful king at Tilaurakot. It was here he spent his first 29 years of his life, before turning his back to the ways of the world as he sought enlightenment. The ruins of the palace and gates are here, and you can actually pass through the same gate that Siddhartha passed through when he left that night for a new life. We return after exploration to Lumbini for additional touring before we have lunch. Rest follows lunch, and then it’s time for meditation. Enjoy your final dinner at Lumbini. Perform meditation, pooja and prayer before going to bed.
DAY 7 – RETURN TO KATHMANDU
We fly back to Kathmandu. You will have the entire day at your leisure to enjoy. Do some sightseeing or take time for meditation and prayer. In the evening, enjoy a farewell dinner in Kathmandu. Enjoy prayer and pooja before going to bed in your final night in Kathmandu.
