Detailed Itinerary:

DAY 1 – ARRIVAL IN KATHMANDU (elev. 1350 m/4,429 ft.)

The plane circles over the Kathmandu Valley as you look to the north to see the snowcapped peaks of the Himalayas. The Kathmandu Valley is a large green valley ringed with beautiful green hills that reach to nearly 3000 meters.  The plane lands at Tribhuvan International Airport where you deplane in anticipation of your great adventure that lies ahead. You are greeted by your new friends at Asia Buddhist Tours & Treks and taken by private car to your hotel to rest from your long flight.

DAY 2 – DRIVE TO SYABRU BESI (elev. 1550 m/5,085 ft.)

Rise refreshed from a good night’s sleep as you breath in the wonderful Himalayan air. After breakfast, your guide with a private car will take you north across the Valley rim toward the Langtang Mountains. You may even be able to spot them along the way as you travel along the Trisuli River. The journey to Syabrubesi takes around 7 hours as you draw close to the Tibet border. Syabru Besi is a pleasant village with great hotels where we will spend the night.

DAY 3 – TREK TO LAMA HOTEL (elev. 2380 m/7,808 ft.)

The trek begins today as we cross the Trisuli River. We follow upstream the Langtang Khola as it gurgles and rushes over rapids on its way down from the glaciers that form its source. There are dense forests and then beautiful terraced farms along the way as we reach Lama Hotel.

DAY 4 – TREK TO LANGTANG VILLAGE (elev. 3430 m/11,253 ft.)

It’s a day of gaining elevation as we climb above the tree line. While the forests are wonderful for their smells of pine, we have come to see snowcapped mountains. And today we really see them! We see waterwheels grinding grain as the local people have done for centuries. This is Buddhist country, and we pass mani walls and chhortens, all made by the faithful over the centuries. We arrive at the picturesque Langtang Village where we will spend the night.

DAY 5 – TREK TO KYANJIN GOMPA (elev. 3730 m/11,253 ft.)

We have reach some high elevations, and today is a shorter day of trekking. This is an area above the villages. We pass kharkas, which are summer grazing areas for the livestock. The views are awe-inspiring as we make our way to Kyanjin Gompa, a monastery in the high mountains. We will spend two nights at a guest house here.  There will be time to visit the monastery along with the yak cheese factory.

DAY 6 – ACCLIMATIZATION DAY, TSERGO-RI PEAK CLIMB (elev. 4985 m/16.059 ft.)

We’ve reached some very high elevations, and today we need to allow our bodies time to adjust to the high altitude to avoid AMS (Acute Mountain Sickness). The best way to adjust is to allow the body 24 hours to adjust to the thinner air. We take it easier, but still are active. If you want, you can choose to climb to the top of Tsergo-Ri Peak. This is a trekking peak which requires no special equipment. From its summit you can have enjoy the finest views of the mountains in all directions. It takes around 3 ½ hours to climb to the summit. IN the evening, return to our guest house.

DAY 7 – TREK TO LAMA HOTEL (elev. 2324 m/7,625 ft.)

We start on our return trip today as we follow the same trail back to Lama Hotel where we spend the night.  The views are wonderful all along the way.

DAY 8 – TREK TO THULOSYABRU (elev. 2210 m/7,251 ft.)

Part of the day is spent on the same trail, until we come to the village of Pairo for lunch. The trail forks here. One way returns to Syabru Besi; we take the trail to the village of Thulosyabru. The trail has more incredible alpine views as we make our way to a small guest house in Thulosyabru.

DAY 9 - TREK TO DUNCHE (elev. 2030 m/6.660 ft.)

Today is our final day of trekking as we walk through mysterious, dark forests to the village of Dunche for our final night on the trail.

DAY 10 – RETURN TO KATHMANDU

We enjoy a private car back to Kathmandu. It’s a five hour journey through the valleys and then over the Kathmandu Valley rim to reach our hotel. Get a hot shower, and then enjoy dinner in Kathmandu.
