Markha Valley trek in Leh is one of the popular trekking programs in Ladakh. It offers an exploration of all the major religious and natural sites in Leh and the surrounding towns.
Ladakh is a land of traditional villages, ancient monasteries, magnificent Himalayan ranges, high passes and spiritual center in the Himalaya. Begin your adventure by visiting the 17th century Hemis Monastery, which was built in tribute to Guru Padmasambhava of Gelugpa sect. Also do not miss the 15th century Thiksey Monastery that houses a 14m statue of Maitreya Buddha, Avalokiteshwara and Padmasambhava.
Trek down Markha Valley to Siu crossing the Ganda La pass at an altitude of 4800 m and later the Kongmaru La (5200m) pass. Enjoy an amazing panorama of Zanskar and Ladakh ranges and the beautiful barren landscape of Ladakh dotted with small traditional villages. Catch the splendid view of Mt. Kang Yatze (6400m), Nun Kun and Saser Kangri peaks. You will have the opportunity to interact with local villagers and observe their traditional lifestyles.

On your arrival, our local office representative will welcome you in Leh, then transfer to your booked hotel. Overnight in a hotel.
This is a day you will spend touring the sites around Leh. Start off by visiting Hemis and Thiksey monasteries. Hemis is probably the most famous Buddhist monastery in Leh. This 17th century monastery dedicated to Guru Padmasambhava practices the Gelugpa sect of Himalayan Buddhism. Thiksey Monastery is also as old as Hemis and houses hundreds of learning monks. Once used as a summer residence by royals of Ladakh, the 17th century Shey Palace is an attractive site to visit. Overnight in a hotel.
Today your Markha Valley trekking begins but you will take a short morning drive to Zingchen via Spituk.
Follow your local Ladakhi guide to Rumbak Village enjoying the unique landscape of Ladakh. Trek along the Indus river to Zinchen and then to Yurutse. Camping in Zingchen.
This is one of the most challenging days as you will trek about 6-7 hrs to reach Skiu. The trail passes through the wide open fields and beautiful valley towered by Zanskar range. By the midway the trail begins to climb to Ganda La which is at an altitude of 4800m. This 2 hrs steep climb from here you descend to Shingo Village before dropping to Skiu, which sits at the confluence of Shigri Nala and Markha River. Overnight in a hotel.
After breakfast you will continue on the trail forward. Today you will be entering the Markha Village. Narding, Chalak are two important villages you will pass by including several streams and barley fields, You will come to the lower valley to Markha which is distinct by a Gumba. Camping overnight.
This 4-5 hrs trek will reward you with many natural views. One of the prominent will be the Kang Yatze Peak (6400m) after passing Umlung settlement. Ahead you will pass through Tacha and Hankar villages before reaching Thochuntse which is surrounded by wheat fields. Camp overnight.
Leaving behind Thochunse the trail gradually climbs. The Kang Yatze peak forms a formidable backdrop throughout the day’s trek. Nimaling is a wide open space with very few houses. Overnight camping.
This is the day when you will reach the highest point of the entire trekking journey. The trail first crosses a small stream then follows a long ridge towards Kongmaru La (5200m). It will take at least 2.5 hrs to reach the top of Kongmaru La. The pass overlooks the Indus valley and right on the horizon you will be able to spot Ladakh ranges, particularly the peak of Nun Kun and Saser Kangri. After relishing this majestic view, you descend down to Sumdo passing through Shang Sumdo. In Sumdo you will ride a four wheel which will drive you back to Leh. Overnight in a hotel.
Depending on your flight schedule, our office representative will transfer you to the airport for your final departure.
