Overview - Buddhist Meditation at Namo Buddha

The Buddhist Meditation tour to Namo Buddha is a spiritual journey where you will get an wonderful opportunity to learn about Buddhism and participate in Buddhist meditation, pooja & rituals. Namo Buddha is one of the sacred buddhist pilgrimage sites in Nepal and the Thrangu Tashi Yangtse Monastery is one of the major attractions from where your spiritual journey to Buddhism will begin. The sacred place is about 40 km southwest of Kathmandu, overlooks the mighty Himalayas from its place on the summit of a high hill. Within its boundaries are a magnificent temple, monastery and sacred cave where the pre-incarnation of Lord Buddha demonstrated extreme love to save the life of a mother tiger and her four newborn cubs.

Thrangu Tashi Yangtse Monastery, the magnificent Indian style six story temple founded by the venerable Kyabje Thrangu Rinpoche in 1978. The main building features a golden room and on the fourth floor is the main hall with 36 beautiful columns topped with bronze statues of Buddha. The ceiling is adorned with 15 beautiful mandalas. The grounds and other buildings feature incredible serenity and beauty as the mighty Himalayas can be seen in the distance.The upper roof is inscribed with the five sacred symbols of Buddha families: Dharma wheel, vajra, jewel, lotus and double vajra. The front pillars display realistic looking dragons.

The monastery is a home to more than 250 monks and contains a monastic college. Here the lama practices Buddhist culture, philosophy, meditation, chanting, rituals, etc. This monastery also offers Buddhist philosophy and meditation classes for them who want to deepen their knowledge in Buddhism. This 8 days tour instructs you on the principles of Buddhist meditation in Thrangu Tashi Yangtse Monastery .

For meditation tours, we ensure the standard group size, not exceed 16 pax. This group size is perfect for us to perform our best without compromising with our service quality. For this tour we provide one licensed professional guide who can communicate or speak in English and supporting staff. Also,a group of 16 participants will have one complimentary group leader.

Our staff are entirely made up of locals who are trained to conduct their duties and responsibilities diligently and smoothly. They have excellent knowledge about local customs and practices and can also perform, if needed, first aid and rescue operations.

Accomodation
There are various levels and types of accommodation facilities available in major cities such as Kathmandu, Pokhara, Chitwan and Lumbini. A variety of choices exists from budget hotels to deluxe to five-star hotels depending upon your interests. We choose accommodation for your tour program specifically based on the destination you will be visiting, the level of services you require and your interests. Our tour programs offer single rooms for independent tourists, double/twin sharing for couples and friends.

For this tour we offer a double/twin sharing room in a ‘3-Star Hotel’ with bed & breakfast plan. The hotels have been selected by the Asia Buddhist Tours & Treks after personal inspection. We look at the conditions of the inns, local hygiene, quality of food, type of service and more. All rooms are double occupancy, but you can request a single occupancy room for an additional fee. The availability of rooms vary between peak and lean tourist seasons which also affect the prices. We suggest you inform us in advance the types of hotels you prefer while making a booking with us.

Foods
Nepal offers a plethora of delicacies and cuisines as far as food is concerned. Major cities like Kathmandu, Pokhara and Chitwan have great restaurants with great dining experience.Whether you like to try local cuisine, Indian or Chinese food or continental, you are in for a feast.

Itinerary

Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu

As you cross over the ancient Himalayas on your way to Tribhuvan International Airport, you are no doubt feeling the presence of deep spirituality. The Himalayas have long been considered a sacred place, and everyone who ever comes into contact with these impressive mountains finds themselves feeling a higher plane of spirituality. Kathmandu is the very vortex of this ancient spirituality as the Valley contains over 1000 temples. Deplane, collect your luggage and meet your new guide from Asia Buddhist Tours & Treks who will take you to your booked hotel to prepare your mind and body for this ultimate of spiritual experiences.

Day 02: Drive to Namo Buddha

After early morning breakfast you will take a 2 hour drive by private vehicle to Namo Buddha. Located southeast of Kathmandu, we cross the Valley ridge to enter this center of deep spirituality. It is a pleasant trip as you leave the busyness of the Valley behind. Crossing to the top of the ridge at Dhulikhel, you behold the snow capped peaks of the Himalayas to the north. We continue on until we reach Namo Buddha. We first check into the hotel to get refreshed and then spend this day becoming oriented with the hilltop of the Thrangu Tashi Yangtse Monastery. See the Tiger’s Cave where the future Lord Buddha made the ultimate sacrifice as well as other sightseeing around Namo Buddha. Return to your hotel where you will spend some time in meditation and prayer before dinner.

Day 03 & 04: Activities in Thrangu Tashi Yangtse Monastery, Namo Buddha

From today you will start your spiritual activities at Thrangu Tashi Yangtse Monastery, Namo Buddha. Yesterday you were the visitor; today you are immersing yourself in the depths of spirituality. We begin early morning with sacred prayers and performing a pooja (worship). This is followed by breakfast and then taking an introductory class on Buddhist Philosophy as well as learning an introduction of meditation. These courses are taught by a lama who will become your guide on the path of enlightenment.

Day 05 - Short hike to Fulbari resort and Back to Namo Buddha

An important part of your training is being outdoors to commune with nature. It is here in the peacefulness of the Himalayas that you can feel the spirituality of the region touch you. These mountains have shaped Tibetan Buddhism in such unique ways as monks and nuns have meditated bringing inner peace. These mountains promote such inner peace that transcends all understanding.

The morning begins with prayers and pooja, followed by breakfast. After breakfast, hike to Fulbari Resort (a one hour journey), enjoying the serenity of the alpine views that abound. There will be time to explore the resort before returning to Namo Buddha. Once you return, enjoy another session with your lama before you have lunch. Once you have spent time in meditation, prepare for dinner. Following dinner is time for more prayer that brings you closer to the divine before going to bed.

Day 06: More activities at Namo Buddha, Meditation in love hill (Danda) Jungle.

It’s early morning as we rise to greet the day in prayer and pooja. Today we now add a chanting service which will deepen your spiritual experience. Breakfast is next, followed by a trip to Love Hill (Danda Jungle) where you will practice the meditation exercises that have been taught to you by your lama. We will spend between 1 – 2 hours in such meditation.

Return for lunch to Namo Buddha and enjoy spending time at your favorite places around Thrangu Monastery. After dinner, it’s time for prayers before going to bed.

Day 07 - Return to Kathmandu

Rise early in the morning as you do your pooja and prayers. Following breakfast, we have our final class on Buddhism and its teachings. Lunch will be with all of the Lama students. We say goodbye to Namo Buddha as we head back to Kathmandu for the night. In the evening enjoy the farewell dinner.

Day 08 – Final Departure

Your time in Kathmandu is now coming to a close. We are quite certain that under the guidance of our Lama and instructors, you have become deeper in Buddhism and moving down the path of enlightenment. You have learned some important techniques that will help you along the way.
